Vegetation and seasonal development

Reviewed at · Statuses reflect this review and may change.
1. What this capability does
Track seasonal vegetation development using satellite observations aligned with crop identity, phenology and local conditions.
2. Why it is needed
A vegetation anomaly may reflect weather, crop type, harvest or cloud cover and requires contextual interpretation.
3. Which decisions it can support
Select areas for field observation and investigate seasonal differences before drawing conclusions about crop condition.
4. Which data are available
The registry includes Sentinel-2, CLMS products and JRC ASAP warnings without a combined operational feed in this module.
5. Which data are still needed
Access rights, area boundaries, crop identities, farming calendars, cloud masks and local observations are required.
6. Who can provide the data
Copernicus and JRC provide candidate products, while farmers and researchers can confirm crop identities and growth stages.
7. Methods and scientific limitations
Analysis retains resolution and quality controls, comparing compatible growth stages without automatically converting NDVI into crop yield.
8. Which outputs it can produce
Planned outputs include seasonal curves and anomaly areas with coverage, quality indicators and requirements for local verification.
9. Readiness and conditions of use
The module is in development; yield forecasting and attribution of anomaly causes are not validated functions.
Sources and access conditions
Links identify the sources. Source accessibility does not prove integration; official observations, estimates and forecasts must remain distinct. Source titles and metadata are shown as documented.
Global grid including Moldova; all ADM1 summaries require boundary overlay and a completeness test.
Availability
REQUIRES_PERMISSION — source discovery only; not a connection to this public service.
Limitations
Optical clouds/shadows and retrieval artefacts; retain quality masks. NDVI is not crop yield, disease diagnosis or direct nutrient measurement. Inspect processing baseline and radiometric offsets before computing indices. Latest catalogue dates are not measurement dates; verify the source terms and observation coverage before reuse.
Tested Moldova warning layer contains ONE national-like unit(asap0_id70,asap1_id688), not37 supported ADM1.; observation reference in the audited snapshot: 2026-09-01 (Moldova WFS feature).
Availability
ACCESSIBLE_NOT_CONNECTED — source discovery only; not a connection to this public service.
Limitations
Anomaly classes use crop/pasture masks and phenology, not verified financial damage. Underlying weather/vegetation dependencies overlap other inventory sources. Moldova adapted GAUL unit does not support district-specific warnings. Latest catalogue dates are not measurement dates; verify the source terms and observation coverage before reuse.
Download the public catalogue with dated statuses, descriptions and sources. The SHA-256 digest identifies the exact file displayed; it does not scientifically validate the data.
